Cyclone Winston Appeal Fiji

Donate

What happens to the money?

We keep no 'surplus' funds from these appeals.

It is our practice to record all specially tied donations and pass them onto our people on the ground.

Much of our work with donations comes in the rebuilding phase replacing water tanks and the like. This work is ongoing even after many other agencies have moved on and most people have forgotten the particular event.

So even where we receive a donation long after the initial period of interest, that donation is still directed to the ongoing work in those areas.

So sorry for the late reply. We are still without a power supply since the cyclone hit us and it is so hard to communicate. The Sacred Heart House is still no power. Hopefully we can get it back in the next few days.

Anyway, all our MSC communities are safe and sound. There has been no damage in any buildings.

This is the worst cyclone compared to the others. So many people are now homeless. So much destruction. There are 42 confirmed dead so far and the number can increase.

I am now emailing from the Chevalier Hostel since they got their electricity.

Anyway, we will call a meeting and visit the affected places to find the best way to help. A few parts of the island are very bad. I think what the people need now are basic needs, such as water, food, and shelter. But I think we can still provide water tanks now for them because the worst is yet to come. Anyway, will find out when we meet.

Thank you so much Adrian for your prayers and willingness to assist the people of Fiji at this difficult time.

let's keep in touch

I hope this email finds you in good health.

We are all ok in Suva when the tropical cyclone Winston left Fiji one week ago. We received a minor damage on the window screen and the roof of the building at the hostel.

Most parts of Fiji including our Formation houses in Wailoku, Wainadoi, Chevalier Training centre, three parishes (St Agnes, Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Assumption) have not received the electricity for more than 7 days. The Hostel and Sacred Heart House received the electricity already.

Anyway, find above documents from Nadi Special school, photos, acquittal and receipts. Once again thank you very much for your support and prayers during this time of cyclone.

Take care,

Kaake
